Our Mission

The Bosnian American Genocide Institute and Education Center (BAGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to research and education pertaining to the genocides that occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in the Balkans.

While our primary focus is educating students and the public about the genocide and war crimes that occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992-1995, at the hands of ethnonationalist Serbian and Croatian extremists, we are also dedicated to teaching about the Holocaust in Balkan region (1939 - 1945) that was planned and orchestrated by the Nazi occupying forces and the Independent State of Croatia(NDH).

As genocide survivors, children of survivors and grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, we are dedicated to standing in solidarity with all genocide survivor communities.

We are determined to educate the public about the impact of genocide worldwide by teaching universal lessons that combat Islamophobic and Antisemitic hatred; gender-based, religious, racial and ethnic prejudice; and apathy in the face of violence.

We are honored to announce that in 2025 we have kicked off a new program that will help ensure that educational materials will be available to the next generation of Bosnians and that the history of the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be buried. As a result we will be partnering with artists, filmmakers, musicians and educators to support projects that will have a higher impact on the next generation in preventing genocide.

Our first partnership will be with,
The Acts of Reburial, a film dedicated to exposing the truth about the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the institutionalized genocide denial that prevents any realistic justice for the victims and/or survivors.

Through interviews with survivors, legal scholars, and war crimes investigators, the film will expose the depth of this denial. It will show how war criminals have been turned into folk heroes, how historical facts are actively rewritten, and how even institutions of law can become complicit in softening, sanitizing, or outright distorting the truth.

We have partnered with the staff of
The Acts of Reburial in two ways:

  • to help raise funds for the film so they can be re-granted to the film production company in order to guarantee that this educational resource can be created; and

  • to find volunteers and expert partners to assist with the project.

How you can help:

1. Join the email list. There we will keep you updated about our the filming timelines and other needs that may come up as the filming begins.
2. Donate to our seed fund that will enable the filming of trailer for the documentary. Tax-deductible donations only apply to residents of the United States.
3. Sign up to volunteer or sign-on as a partner organization, so we can get started in coordinating next steps for phase 1 of the project.
